Some big questions - Ideas for this product.

Hi there, I really like this product and after trawling the net for along time looking for similar products i really feel as though this one has alot of potential. Especially after reading through the forums here about all the upgrades and features either avaliable now with this product or features to come or that could be.
I see lots of people posting ideas for this product and those ideas being implimented.

I have tried the demo of this product and find it suitable for my needs however i do feel (for my needs) it does need a couple of tweaks, modifications and some implimentations to this product and it could be pretty much perfect for me.
When is the expected date that version 2.0 will be ready?

Anyway so basically my website generates lots of visitors of people wanting to sell there vehicles of all types / categories. So a product like this is usable for me but not maybe as a permenant option not unless some of the ideas and suggestions for this product have been built into it.

I need an ability to add different categories, Car, 4x4, Motorbike, Motorhome, Quad, JetSki etc etc when adding vehicles to the listings.
I have seen this mentioned here before and even that it was to be added to autodirector.
With the business i run i pretty much need to give my customers a different choice of categories as we cater for every vehicle type. Even commercial vehicles, Tractors, JCB's for example.

The other thing id be happy with now so i can use this product permanently would be being able to add more detail fields to each vehicles listing.
Instead of just Model, Colour, Gearbox, Mileage, Details. Would actually like alot more options to fill in such as Condition (New / Used), Fuel type, Engine size when adding customers vehicles.

Some other ideas i have seen talked about on this forum are ones that i would indeed be very keen to see as well are.

- Ability to let customers sign up for thereself and add their vehicle to the other vehicles adding their own pics thereself.
(Integrating payment options into this so customer can pay with paypal or with other card processer.)
Or a simple click here to register button that i can edit to redirect the people that want to advertise there vehicle with us to a page where they are given different payment options.

- Autotrader style. Where customers get there own accounts they can log into to update / amend there advert.

- email newsletter? That would be fantastic! Is that avaliable yet?
(Ability to send "interested parties/potential buyers" recently added vehicle reports. Or reports of featured vehicles.

- "Send to a friend!" An ability for anyone browsing the listings to pull one up and have an option to email its link to someone else. So that person can go straight to it.
(A custom email would just probably need to be made for email delivery)

- Social addons. (So that people can post a vehicles listings (or the site) to Facebook, Stumblupon etc etc.

I realise this is quite a big post and that some of these ideas could be quite hard to impliment but to have them would definitely increase my companies potential in the market we work in.
I also hope i have given a few good ideas for features that would be good to see in this product.

Thanks

Just to add one more idea to this list would be the possibility of having a search field displayed before people actually see any cars listed.
At the moment when you go to the script you just see cars listed in whatever format youve chose.

However a box with search fields such as category, make, model and advanced details such as fuel, gear ratio, colour and postcode (to limit cars by distance)

People then enter those details and all vehicles matching the criteria are displayed.
Otherwise just an option to "browse all vehicles" would be good as well.

I look forward to your expert replies :)

I think the system does some of the things you want, or you can hire a coder to produce some of the out put you need.
ie-
you can have a different "site" for some of the categories like caravans/jetski/JCB etc
a simple html form can be used as an expanded search engine.
you can create an email by using php to extract and produce the html from the database

I have used this sort of extraction to produced a mobile phone version mini list and an iGoogle gadget as well as extracting the content straight into a newspaper ad pdf.

Hi MofoMan - welcome to the forum and thanks for taking time to send your suggestions. To answer your questions...

v2.0 is still in the planning phase. We have been collating ideas and suggestions in order to get the product right from the start. There is no release date, so don't hold your breath just yet! We will continue to work on and support v1.x.

Vehicle categories is one of the most requested features so it's certainly something that's a top priority for v2. However, as Snizbit mentions, you can handle categories using a separate 'site'.

Custom fields is another frequently-requested feature. It is more complex since everyone has differing requirements, however, we are seriously considering some ideas. For now, you can simply add text to the 'more information' field - this free mod could help you in that respect:
http://www.autodirector.co.uk/forum/topic-44.html

It is possible to create your own custom search form on any page - including those that don't display a showroom. It's just a few lines of HTML - see the 'integration options'. Any decent web developer could customise this to your requirements.

AutoDirector does not include a newsletter system, but there are plenty of products that handle that functionality better than we ever would! Similarly, we don't include social bookmarking features, but that's something I'd suggest you hand over to your web developer. Adding a delicious, digg, etc. only takes a few seconds.

As for AutoTrader style options, you can set up separate showrooms for any number of clients. Clients can only access their own showrooms - they can't even see the others.

What you can't do is specify that a client can only access their own vehicles within one showroom. However, AutoDirector is aimed at professional car dealers rather than people posting their own classified car adverts. I'm not saying we'll never do it, but it would probably be a mod or a separate product in its own right.

I hope that helps.

Snizbit - it sounds as though you've added some fantastic features.

I'm sure other users would find them useful if you're willing to share or charge for them.
